DREAM SONG OF OLAF Ã…STESON.

Author: Stedall, Jonathan, and Andrew Welburn. Illustrated by Janet Jordan.
Year: 2007
Country or State of Origin: Scotland

The Dream Song of Olaf Åsteson is a folksong which only came to light in 1850 when a clergyman called Landstad heard it in a lonely valley in Telemark, Norway. No one knows how long it had existed, but it is an epic narrative telling the story of a young man who slept for twelve nights in the depths of winter, and then awoke to share the wondrous sights he had seen. This edition is illustrated with Janet Jordan’s striking paintings, which give life to Olaf and help the modern reader engage with the ancient saga.

EYES OF THE SKIN, THE. Architecture and the Senses

Author: Pallasmaa, Juhani. Preface by Steven Holl.
Year: 2005
Country or State of Origin: Great Britain

This book has become a classic of architectural theory and is required reading on courses in schools of architecture around the world. It consists of two extended essays. The first surveys the historical development of the ocularcentric paradigm in western culture since the Greeks, and its impact on the experience of the world and the nature of architecture. The second examines the roles of the other senses in authentic architectural experiences, and points the way towards a multi-sensory architecture which facilitates a sense of belonging and integration. Since the book’s first publication, interest in the role of the body and the senses has been emerging in both architectural philosophy and teaching.

GARBO, GRETA. A Cinematic Legacy

Author: Vieira, Mark
Year: 2005
Country or State of Origin: New York

With her astounding beauty and enigmatic persona, Greta Garbo is the ultimate Hollywood icon. Though many books have tried to unlock the mystique of the "Swedish Sphinx" by focusing primarily on her personal life, Greta Garbo: A Cinematic Legacy is the first to pay serious attention to what made her an icon—her 24 Hollywood films. Celebrating the centenary of her birth, the book draws extensively on interviews, letters, and newly accessible M-G-M production files to chronicle Garbo's career from her American debut in 1926 to her self-imposed retirement in 1941 at the height of her popularity. A wealth of film stills, production photographs, and portraits—many previously unpublished, all beautifully reproduced from pristine prints—combine with Mark Vieira's engrossing text to bring vividly to life the actress who inspired the critic Kenneth Tynan to declare: "What, when drunk, one sees in other women, one sees in Garbo sober.
