AGRIPPINA MINOR: Life and Afterlife / Liv og Eftermæle.

Author: Moltesen, Mette and Anne Marie Nielsen eds
Year: 2007
Country or State of Origin: Denmark

This book focuses on the Roman empress Agrippina Minor (AD 15-59), one of the most influential women in Antiquity. She was the sister of the emperor Caligula, wife of the emperor Claudius, and mother of the emperor Nero. The focal point of the book is a statue of Agrippina in dark green stone of which the head is in the Ny Carlsberg Glyptotek and the body in a museum in Rome. Both had been found in Rome in the 1880s. Twelve articles written in German, English, and Italian by Danish and foreign scholars deal with the life and the portraits of Agrippina, her influence on her own age and on posterity, and finally Agrippina as she has been depicted in films. All articles are also included in Danish translation.
