La Grande Arche crowns the historic axis of Paris, as if La Defense were its prow. The Canadian artist (b.1946) has since the late 1970s worked with transparent photographs placed in illuminated advertisement display cases. As the sole designer at the Frantz Hingelberg Silversmith’s company in Århus, Denmark, Weihrauch (1899-1962) established himself as a renowned and prolific functionalist, largely due to his early use of rationalized production techniques. In his 28 years at Hingelberg’s, he drafted almost 4,500 designs for hollowware, cutlery and jewelry - almost all of which were produced.
