ARTISTS’ STUDIOS/TAITEILIJATILOJA.

Author: Tiainen, Jussi
Year: 2007
Country or State of Origin: Finland

Artists Studios is a wonderful book photographed by Jussi Tiainen illustrating one piece of art work from numerous artists along with a photograph of the studio from which the art came. Tiainen became fascinated by how the artists’ studio resembles that of the artist. As Tiainen states “The studio is like a womb which gives birth to new life and keeps it inside until it is time to come out and cut the cord. The work becomes a work of art and begins a new life of its own when it comes face to face with the viewer on the bare gallery wall.”

Author: Levine, Karen A. ed
Year: 2007
Country or State of Origin: California

In the art of Olafur Eliasson, the sun can rise inside a museum and rainbows can appear indoors. His immersive installations explore the intersection of nature and artifice, transforming ordinary spaces into sites of wonder and spectacle. From kaleidoscopes to waterfalls to mirrored passageways, the projects invite the viewer’s active participation while posing provocative questions about the workings of human perception. This catalogue presents a series of original essays investigating the complex origins and implications of Eliasson’s practice.

FAIRY TALES FOREVER. Homage to H.C.Andersen

Author: Jensen, Mona
Year: 2005
Country or State of Origin: Denmark

A group of internationally renowned visual artists from Asia, Africa, Middle East, Latin America, the U.S. and Europe, including Denmark have been chosen to participate in this exhibition . This event fashions the Museum’s tribute to H.C.Andersen on the occasion of his 200th birthday. Each work relates to Andersen’s life and work demonstrating that the fairy tales’ fantastic universe of life and death, of good and evil powers, of the true and the false, of wisdom and foolishenss and, above all, of love still serves - even today - as a bountiful source of inspiration for our present day’s artists. What this entails is that many different kinds of visual expressions, in the form of paintings, sculptures, drawings, photographs, installations and videos - and often in hybrid forms - are represented here. Includes Kara Walker, William Kentridge, Tony Ousler, Jeff Koons, Tal R, Jorge Pardo, Pipilotti Rist among many more.

GJERDEVIK, NILS ERIK.

Author: Foghmar, Christian, Ferdinand Ahm Krag, Christrian Vind
Year: 2009
Country or State of Origin: Denmark

Nils Erik Gjerdevik is one of a kind in Danish contemporary art - but not in the sense that he is an isolated figure as a practicing artist; on the contrary he is an inspiring artist who has worked stimulatingly since the 1980’s with innovative explorations of the nature of the abstract image. Like some extremist of artistic form he continues his mission to explode the existing visual vocabulary and open up avenues for unlimited configurations of the image.

HEARTBEAT/ HJERTEBANK/ LATIDO. Young Cuban Artists/ Unge Cubanske Kunstnere/ Jóvenes Artistas Cubanos

Author: Fernandez, Sandra Sosa, Andrea Sunder-Plassmann, curators
Year: 2006
Country or State of Origin: Norway

In recent years, large exhibitions, commercial projects, the exhibition in Norway of part of the Havana Biennial and the solo shows of the artists themselves in different European countries, the United States and other latitudes have allowed a significant presence of Cuban visual arts and an active dialogue with the critics, the public and the market of art. In the case of Hearbeat, the curators, Cuban and German, respectively, have made an intelligent selection of young talents who, although they are not wholly representative of all trends of current Cuban art given their reduced number, are indeed outstanding values of some of those creative trends.
