ANDERSEN, HANS CHRISTIAN AS AN ARTIST.
Author: Heltoft, Kjeld
Year: 2005
Country or State of Origin: Denmark
This is the largest selection of Hans Christian Andersen's visual art ever presented in one book. Without having had any knowledge of Andersen's visual art, van Gogh was convinced that only a visual artist could write the way Andersen did. In a warm, precise style, Heltoft emphasizes the connection between Andersen's writing and his visual art, and presents the book's wealth of illustrative material in an entirely original way within a framework of excerpts from Andersen's works, correspondence and diary entries. We cannot help being moved by the originality and charm of Andersen's visual art, but not until modernism's expansion of the concept of art have we come to understand the values in his naive drawings, surrealistic collages and subtly executed paper cuts. They are all based on a pronounced ability to observe and an uncompromising artistic instinct. By means of modern reproduction techniques, the drawings in this book have been restored to their original graphic beauty, and the festive coloring of the paper cuts has been re-created. New material has been added, and works that have been lost have now been reproduced from the author's archives and in this way serve to make the book additionally interesting. It represents the best starting-point for an appreciation of Andersen's gifts as a visual artist.

ART OF THE JUBILEES IN THE POPE’S ROME, THE 1500-1750.
Author: Rossi, Sergio, Vuolasto, Johanna, ed
Year: 2000
Country or State of Origin: Sweden
The jubilees of the two centuries in question, ranging from 1550 to 1750 and comprising styles extending from the Late Renaissance to the Late Baroque, are not examined in terms of their theological or religious value, but as occasions for renewing and enhancing the image of Rome. This was the objective of the Papal Court, but it also involved fraternities and private religious bodies, as well as artists, collectors, and scholars, both religious and secular, of the most varying backgrounds.

ART OF THE WPA ERA. From Collections of the San Diego Region
Author: Dijkstra, Bram
Year: 2006
Country or State of Origin: California
During the 1930’s, American art experienced an unprecedented and still largely unequalled, surge of creative excitement. Thousands of professional artists, some already known, and most new to the scene, men and - for the first time in this country’s history - an almost equally large group of women, equipped with a dizzying mix of ethnic and econimic backgrounds, were working together to create artworks instended for the enjoyment and education of the public. These artists expressed themselves in Murals, sculptures, decorative patterns, bas-reliefs, and almost any other medium they could command.
