A study into the history of female body, clothes and emancipation in Norway. The inventor of the “Rational Dress”, Amelia Bloomer from New York State, pushed propaganda in speeches and articles for the new practical woman’s dress. The phenomenon spread to the Scandinavian public as the Rational Dress Movement in 1851. This material is drawn from the 20th century and is supplemented by interesting interviews with women who lived during this revolutionary period, and finally by the author’s personal experience.
