AINOLA The Home of Sibelius.
Author: Anttila, Elina, text
Year: 2004
Country or State of Origin: Finland
This booklet presents the home of Jean and Aino Sibelius. The text provides a guide to the museum and only touches briefly on the personal history and life’s work of Jean Sibelius. After the death of their parents in 1972 Aino Sibelius’s daughters sold most of the property and its buildings to the Finnish State, including the complete interiors, furniture, works of art and the library with its collection of published music. The home was converted into a museum opening in 1974, and the interior was kept as it was during Jean and Aino Sibelius’s time.

AMBIANCE.
Author: Pedersen, Niels-Henning Ørsted and the Danish Radio Big Band, Conductor Ole Kock Hansen
Year: 1993
Country or State of Origin: Denmark
The spirit of confidence and creative energy arose when in, December 1993, NHØP was reunited with the Danish Radio Big Band. In this work, Niels-Henning Ørsted Pedersen (NHØP) and the conductor, Ole Kock Hansen, are focusing on original compositions of NHØP as well as music of Danish origin in such a manner that this recording is not merely a jazz record of high international standard, but at the same proof that it is possible to “gene-splice” a characteristic Danish musical sound with the USA’s most important contribution to the art of the world, namely: jazz.

Andy Pape: LEONORA CHRISTINE 2 CD’s + 87 Page Booklet.. Dronning af Blaataarn (Queen of Blaataarn)
Author: Guillamume, Edith, Maria Stenz, Jens Bruno Hansen
Year: 2001
Country or State of Origin: Denmark
Andy Pape, born in California in 1955, came to Denmark at the age of fifteen. With his chamber opera The Great Houdini, Pape had an unusual musical breakthrough in 1988. His catalogue as a composer includes instrumental theatre compositions as well as orchestral and chamber music with a fondness for distinctive instrument combinations and frequent use of percussion. This opera was conceived after Pape was captivated by the sound of two women’s voices together, Maria Stenz and Edith Guillaume. Although they were trained in seperate traditions (classical opera and the chanson/cabaret tradition), he thought they sounded extraordinarily good together.

Grøndahl, Marianne: TIDSRUM. Seksten Danske Komponister (Sixteen Danish Composers)
Author: Asmussen, Peter
Year: 2002
Country or State of Origin: Denmark
Between 1989-2002, Grøndahl photographed sixteen Danish composers spanning four generations. The result is this beautiful, gigantic book, portraits of the individuals, their environment and their music. A stunning book. Composers included are Carl Nielsen, Herman D. Koppel, Vagn Holmboe, Ib Nørholm, Per Nørgård, Karl-Åge Rasmussen, Poul Ruders, Anders Nordentoft, Eva Noer Kondrup et al. In the case of Carl Nielsen, since he is no longer alive the choice was to photograph the landscape in which he grew up and lived, which was his main inspiration.

GRIEG AND DELIUS. A Chronicle of their Friendship in Letters
Author: Carley, Lionel
Year: 1993
Country or State of Origin: Great Britain
When Norwegian composer Frederick Delius (1862-1934) met Edvard Grieg (1843-1907) for the first time, it was the beginning of a long and deep personal friendship that survived until their deaths. Now, for the first time, the entire correspondence of their letters, with the fascinating insights which they offer into some extraordinary lives, has been brought together and arranged here in chronological order, and widely commented upon. A glimpse into their deep occasionally troubled lives of emotion.

Pálsson, Joél: PRÍM.
Author: Pálsson, Jóel (tenor & soprano saxes), Hilmar Jensson (guitar), Einar Schedving (drums), Eythor Gunnarsson (piano), Gulli Gudmundsson (bass)
Year: 2000
Country or State of Origin: Denmark
The Icelandic Music Awards “wind player of the year” and Berklee honors graduate aligns himself with a who’s who of Icelandic jazz as they cook through an attention-grabbing line-up of originals. The album title is translated as ‘Primal”...but the only things primal here are the young age of the soloist and the energy heard in the group’s playing. The opening track, ‘Urgur (Grump)’, is said to be inspired by jazz masters such as Mingus and Miles who often chewed out their sidemen. But nothing’s grumpy about the rest of the album, only top notch performances that are also very listenable.

PEKKA PYLKKÄNEN'S TUBE FACTORY: OPAQUE.
Author: Pylkkänen, Pekka (flute), Peka Luukka (guitars), Samuli Mikkonen (piano), Hannu Rantanen (bass), Marko Timonen (drums), et al
Year: 2001
Country or State of Origin: Denmark
Conjuring images of the impenetrable and obscure, Opaque is a good description of the mysterious feel of Finland’s Pylkkanen’s brand new CD. The opaqueish feeling is a recurrent theme in many of the tunes on the album, occasionally in the guise of an ever present density, or darkness of harmony, or mixed with the moods of autumn and winter. Based in Helsinki, this accomplished saxophonist in Finland studied jazz at the Sibelius Academy. He has developed his own sense of composition, creating lyrical melodies and colorful harmonies.
