Aalto, Alvar: FINMAR LIMITED.
Author: No Author
Year: 2003
Country or State of Origin: Finland
This booklet is published by Finmar Company in England. The company worked in close cooperation with the architect Alvar Aalto and with Oy Artek Ab, which was founded in Helsinki in 1935. The Finnish architect has succeeded in perfecting a method of woodworking especially well adapted to the making of chairs. The chairs are extremely comfortable; they are light and take up very little room. In appearance they are elegant, their flowing lines lending them a personal, modern character. As the chairs are only waxed and polished, the excellent craftmanship can be examined without difficulty. These described chairs, together with other articles of furniture, have been christened Aalto products. This booklet presents pictures of stackable chairs and stools, more comfortable chairs, tables, bookcases, children’s furniture, a desk and Aalto’s famous tea-trolley.

DESIGNING WITH LIGHT. The Creative Touch
Author: King, Carol Soucek
Year: year
Country or State of Origin: New York
The fifth volume .in a series devoted to the use of design materials, this vividly illustrated book explores the wonder that light can perform on interior spaces. The book shows how designers and architects use light to vitalize objects, surfaces, and environments throughout the home. As architect Ricardo Legorreta states, “Light and architecture go together,” and Dr. Carol Soucek King brilliantly reveals the importance of lighting design as an essential and often unifying element. In these resplendent pages, we see how natural and artificial light, in the past used to perform a sole function, now has a multitude of new roles. Dr. King visits over twenty-five home settings of international lighting designers that represent a complete palette of styles and applications, each reflecting the complex requirements of lighting myriad spaces.

DREAM OF A GOLDEN AGE THE DANISH NEO-CLASSICAL FURNITURE 1790-1850.
Author: Gelfer-Jørgensen, Mirjam
Year: 2004
Country or State of Origin: Denmark
This large, gorgeous and comprehensive book addresses an important period in Scandinavian design history when Danish furniture rose to a level that rivalled contemporaneous work in major European capitals and the Americas. In the estimation of many historians, this remarkable body of 19th c. work may be considered the foundation for modern Danish furniture in the 20th c., based on its reliance upon superlative standards of fabrication, superb quality of design and revelation of national aspirations. The book is printed with many color illustrations of previously unpublished furniture as well as reproductions of Danish Golden Age paintings which reveal these pieces in original interiors. The beautiful layout by the graphic designer Gertrud Jensen has been awarded the prize of the year from the Society of Danish Book Design. The author is the head of The National Art and Design Library in Copenhagen and the assistant director at The Danish Museum of Decorative Art and a member of the board of ICOM-ICDAD.

FLORA DANICA.
Author: Davidsen, Mette-Marie. Photography by Bjørn Wennerwald
Year: 2004
Country or State of Origin: Denmark
This is the historical outline that begins in 1790 of one of the finest and most exclusive porcelain dinnerwares in the world. Every bit as fascinating is the sublime craftmanship, which has always characterised the service: the finest openwork, the meticulous reproduction of plant anatomy, the detailed gilding and the painstakingly modelled flowers on the handles. This is truly craftmanship of the highest order and has been much admired far beyond Denmark’s borders. Flora Danica will therefore never be just a piece of beautifully decorated porcelain, but a tale of kingdoms and empires, political alliances and changing fashions, and much more. This book will give you an insight into the stories and the fascinating production process that is characteristic of a piece of Flora Danica from Royal Copenhagen.
