Year: 1996

In 1896 one thousand years had passed since the Hungarians first set foot on Carpathian soil. In honour of the occasion an exhibition was held in Budapest as a survey of the thousand-year history and folk art of the Hungarian People. The Hungarian artists of the turn of the century sought to create a new national style based on folk art and the nation’s past. HUTS AND HOUSES. Stone Age and Early Metal Age Buildings in Finland
Author: Ranta, Helena
Year: 2002
Country or State of Origin: Finland
The 1990’s were a crucial period for the study of prehistoric houses in Finland. Fieldwork carried out in different parts of the country by several research institutions uncovered an unexpectedly large number of semisubterranean house remains visible on the ground surface as shallow pits. In many cases, excavation revealed that the subsurface structures of the houses were astonishingly well preserved. In the fall of 2000 the National Board of Antiquities Department of Archaeology arranged a two-day seminar focussing on dwelling remains from the Stone Age and Early Metal Age. This book presents a collection of articles based on the papers given at that seminar. Full text in English.
