CHILCHOS VALLEY REVISITED, THE/REDESCUBRIENDO EL VALLE DE LOS CHILCHOS. Life Conditions in the Ceja de Selva, Peru/Condiciones de vida en la Ceja de Selva, Peru

Author: Schjellerup, Inge, Victor Quipsucoa, Carolina Espinoza
Year: 2005
Country or State of Origin: Denmark

This book attempts to describe and understand how human activities have changed the landscape in the montane forest (in the Chilchos valley in the northeastern slopes of the Andes in Peru) in the last 500 years. The Chilchos valley was inhabited with the Chachapoya and Inca cultures in pre-hispanic times. After a drastic decline in population in the colonial period, the valley was forgotten. Within the state of rediscovering the valley in the 1900s, new socio-cultural processes of adaptation to the environment began with migrations from the Sierra. Includes comprehensive Appendix 1:Dictionary of Useful Plants; Appendix 2: Frequency of infection with intestinal protozoa and helminths in the population of Vale de los Chilchos, Amazonas, Peru.

Year: 1996

In 1896 one thousand years had passed since the Hungarians first set foot on Carpathian soil. In honour of the occasion an exhibition was held in Budapest as a survey of the thousand-year history and folk art of the Hungarian People. The Hungarian artists of the turn of the century sought to create a new national style based on folk art and the nation’s past. This book includes many photographs of the colorful ceramic mouldings, porcelain, earthenware and tiles. The Hungarian collections at the National Museum of Finland bring to light the turning points in Hungary’s turbulent history.
