MESTER (Ballet-Master). Historien on Harald Lander (The Story of Harald Lander)

Author: Aschengreen, Erik
Year: 2005
Country or State of Origin: Denmark

Here is the story of a ballet-master, 1905-71, who is an extremely important figure in ballet’s history. In the 19 years he was a ballet master (1932-51), with due consideration for the Bournonville heritage - changed the training basis for the dancers in the direction of the Russian-academic technique and created a whole new repertpoire of his own ballets around soloists like Margot Lander and Byrge Ralov, culminating in Études to music by Knud Åge Rüsager in 1948. The book also discusses his controversial persona in Danish ballet for his immoral behavior towards the young female dancers he trained. After1951 Lander became internationally known and at the same time started as ballet master and leader for 11 years of the Opera school in Paris.

MUSIC TO SEE.

Author: Mortensen, Lise & Peter Brix Søndergård
Year: 2008
Country or State of Origin: Denmark

This exhibition shows five of the most visually innovative and experimental pictorial artists in the music video genre today. The five video artists all work in the cross field between pictorial art and the visual expression of the cinema, in which the music video becomes art. Each in their own way, they make use of an idiom containing many references and similarities to the artistic effects of both pictorial art and the cinema when they challenge and re-think traditional pictorial space. The artists include Anton Corbijn, Chris Cunningham, Michel Gondry, Spike Jonze and Mark Romanek.

ON IBSEN.

Author: Joyce, James
Year: 1999
Country or State of Origin: Demark

From the time of his earliest writings and interest in theater Joyce aligned himself with the great Norwegian dramatist, Henrik Ibsen. In 1900 he wrote an essay on Ibsen’s drama, and the following year he cited Ibsen in opposition to the lack of quality in the Irish theater. Two years later he again wrote on an early Ibsen play. By the mid 1930s, however, his attitude towards the master had somewhat changed, as he briefly satirized the characters of Ghosts. In his introduction, Dennis Phillips explores why Ibsen so captured Joyce’s imagination, and why he wrote about him. For the first time ever, this book collects all the writing by Joyce on Ibsen, works which, while certainly not important in Joyce’s oevre, help to reveal Joyce’s literary strategies and give new insight into his career.

SENSUALISMENS TRIUMF / THE TRIUMPH OF SENSUALISM.

Author: Erik Näslund, Alexander Schouvaloff, Nils Åke Nilsson, Charles Spencer, Margareta Tillbergh, et. al
Year: 1993
Country or State of Origin: Sweden

Leon Bakst (1866-1924) is recognized as one of the greatest artists in theatre in the 20th century. In 1916 during the first tour of the USA by Les Ballets Russes, Leon Bakst was at the height of his fame and popularity. His name was legendary as that of Diaghilev or Nijinsky. His importance for the development of stage design into an independent art form cannot be overstated, he transformed pictorial vision in the theatre from the rather mundane into a cockpit of fantasy and sensuality, multi-dimensional and brilliantly colourful.
