BELLMAN, CARL MICHAEL.
Author: Huldén, Lars
Year: 1995
Country or State of Origin: Sweden
On October 16, 1790, Stockholmers were offered for sale a poetic work which has since then turned out to be one of the Swedish books which have a rightful place as essential to any spaceship’s terrestrial library. Viewed superficially, Fredmans Epistlar by Bellman is a collection of songs about drunkenness, fivolity and loose-living. Yet, strangely enough, it affects us deeply; perhaps even has some kind of lasting valid message. By the time the book came out Bellman had been working on his Fredman’s Epistles for twenty years. In it the drunken watchmaker Jean Fredman heads a whole gallery of contemporary Stockholmers, most of whom have been identified by research. But it is as figures of fantasy they come to life, then as now. Originally planned as a parody of the Pauline epistle, Fredman’s epistles are thought of as being sent out to the town’s taverns and their clients.

DIEDRICHSEN, ULLA: MOMENT MOVEMENT MONUMENT. Installation Photography Video
Author: Sørensen, Jens Erik, Ulla Diedrichsen, eds
Year: 2005
Country or State of Origin: Denmark
This artist always has a pencil and a camera within reach. Her primary artistic media is drawing, painting and photography. For 30 years, the hunt for identity and resolution led Diedrichsen through various media that are linked to each other by an interest in space, territory and the existential. And the themes are to be found everywhere, irrespective of where she happens to be: at home, travelling, nearby things, distant things, objects, places, television, herself. She photographs with the sensitivity of a painter focusing on the atmosphere, light and colour.
