1990 PARADIGM 5.
Author: Wigh, Leif, ed
Year: 1990
Country or State of Origin: Sweden
Since its opening in 1971, Stockholm’s Museum of Photography has held 150 exhibitions. They have attempted to emphasize two different functions of photography: the photograph as an isolated artistic experience and the photograph as representative of the historical development of this art form in the last 150 years. In the past, viewing a photo implied registering a singular image. Today however, a photograph also aims to express the artist’s ideas, experiences, and emotions. This catalog rejoices in the developments of the 1980s, a turning point for photography whereby the talents of a photographer increasingly simulate those of painter. Stunning photographs by Hans Cogne, Lennart Durehed, Åke E:son Lindman, Tuija Lindstrm, and Håkan Valentin cogently depict these recent developments that have carved out a much-deserved place for photography in the art world.

1ST SILKEBORG CLASSIC MONOCHROME SALON 2002.
Author: Brauner, Lars Erik; Jensen, Thomas T.
Year: 2002
Country or State of Origin: Denmark
A few years before this show digital photographic processes were coming into the forefront of photography. It was a development, which overshadowed and still overshadows the old black & white process. This photography is a fine art form now being pressed by time. A black & white photograph is a picture of the soul of the motive. The naturalness of the picture, the colours, are withdrawn. Here is only light and shadow and mixtures of both. To work with an abstraction and at the same time to produce something that is worth seeing, this is the art that the organizers of this salon would like to show their support for.International art photographers from around the world are featured in work, which encompass landscape, cityscape and figurative work.

2ND SILKEBORG CLASSIC MONOCHROME SALON 2005.
Author: Brauner, Lars Erik; Jensen, Thomas T.
Year: 2005
Country or State of Origin: Denmark
This exhibition wants to show its support for analog photography which is on its way to become an exclusive art form of the past. The digital print dominates greatly and therefore most photographers have scrapped the darkroom in favour of the computer. This show presents the allure of using an art form where each artistic technique leads the artistic expression. The art is developed on the basis of possibilities and restrictions of the technique. Beautiful black and white photography by an international group of photographers of international subject matters from cityscapes to landscapes to figurative.

DESIRE. Borealis 7
Author: Edward Lucie-Smith, Berndt Arell, Anneli Fuchs, Tuula Karjalainen
Year: 1995
Country or State of Origin: Finland
The aim of this exhibition organized by the Nordic Art Centre is to present works by photographers who choose the human body as their point of departure for exploring questions of gender, sexual identity, life and death. The bodies in these photographs become both a battlefield and a refuge--an expression of political opposition and a source of fantasy and dreams. This book contains sexually explicit material and is not suitable for children.

DESIRING EYE, THE / –GATS ÅTRÅ. Photographs from Moderna Museet’s Collection
Author: Wigh, Leif, Teresa Hahr, and Mikael Adsenius, eds
Year: 1998
Country or State of Origin: Sweden
This display of 224 mostly 19th century photographs from the Moderna Museet’s collection of photography and photo prints based on art, is only the tip of a massive, still growing and largely unexposed iceberg, yet it gives a clear indication of the range and competence of the whole. Above all, the Desiring Eye focuses on the obsessive compulsion of the photographer to fix the fleeting, transient sensations of the world around him into some kind of chemical and artistic certainty. Throughout the entire history of photography from the 1840s to the present, one constant is the desire of the photographer to capture an image which works and exists at many levels. Included among many Julia Margaret Cameron, Nadar, Walker Evans, Henri Cartier-Bresson, etc.
