Helene Schjerfbeck had an exceptionally long artistic career and her works varied considerably in style and technique, from historic painting and plein-air realism, painterly still-lives and figures to expressive self-portraits and portraits of others. SchJerfbeck painted in a specific style, like no one else from her realism to modernism, this has increased interest in her work in the U.S. and as a result she had a large one-person exhibit at the National Academy of Design in New York in the 1990’s.

August Strindberg (1849-1912) is known as a prolific writer of novels and plays but he was also an extremely radical painter for his time. Strindberg turned to painting in times of upheaval in his personal life or when his capacity as a writer failed him. This richly illustrated catalogue was published along with a 2006 spring exhibition at Skagen’s Museum, showing 60 works by the Swedish painter Anders Zorn (1860-1920). The exhibition is the result of a unique collaboration between the Zorn museum in Mora and Skagen’s Museum.
