GENOESE DRAWINGS.
Author: Schleier, Mary Newcome
Year: 2004
Country or State of Origin: Denmark
The collection of Old Master drawings from the Genoese school in the Department of Prints and Drawings at the Statens Museum for Kunst in Copenhagen have lived an obscure life in the collection’s Solander boxes. Few of them have ever been published and only one has been shown to the public within living momory. Although small, the collection (and consequently this catalogue) spans the entire period of the Genoese Republic, from 1528 to 1797 when it became the Republic of Ligurua, and then part of Italy (1815). The collection embraces a wide range of master drawings by the founders of the Genoese school - the famous Luca Cambiaso and his pupils Lazaro Tavarone, Bernardo Castello and Giovanni Battista Paggi. It contains rare examples of the graceful and charming drawings by Valerio Castello, and a number of fully developed compositional studies by Domenico Piola and his thriving studio. Masters like Bartolomeo Biscaino, Domenico Fiasella, Alessandro Magnasco, Francesco Castiglione, Lorenzo de Ferrari, Carlo Giuseppe Ratti and Francesco Narice are also represented.

Author: Eriksson, Johan
Year: 2002
Country or State of Origin: Sweden
The activities of the condottieri were a phenomenon which culminated at the end of the 15th century. Thanks to the large profits amassed from missions in command of mercenary troops, they were able to establish in Emilia Romagna and the Marche a court life and levels of artistic patronage never previously encountered. The extensive commissions played a central role in the process of marketing il condottiere and such provided an important basis for their political, social and economic power.

LICINIAN TOMB, THE. Fact or Fiction?
Author: Kragelund, Patrick & Mette Moltesen & Jan Stubbe Øostergaard
Year: 2003
Country or State of Origin: Denmark
In November 1884, workers laying the foundations of a new apartment building in what was once the gardens of the renowned Villa Bonaparte, close to Porta Salaria in Rome, hit upon a subterranean chamber with funerary monuments dedicated to a famous aristocratic family of the early empire. The present book aims at examining this sensational, but in some respects unduly neglected find. Offered here is an interdisciplinary approach which brings together the methods of a number of sister disciplines, from archaeology, philology and art history, epigraphy and prosopography.

TOMB TREASURES FROM ANCIENT EGYPT/ GRAVSKATTE FRA DET GAMLE ÆGYPTEN.
Author: Jørgensen, Mogens
Year: 2003
Country or State of Origin: Denmark
This exhibition presents treasures from the tombs of three Egyptian noblemen dating from around 2000 BC: servant figures, jewellery, sticks, weapons and - of particular significance in this exhibition - richly decorated coffins. Photographer Ole Haupt has succeeded in opening the coffins and with specially adapted mirrors he has photographed the decorations. His pictures, which are shown in this catalogue, make it possible to present almost the same view that the Egptian painter had when he executed his colorful works on the, as yet, unassembled coffins 4000 years ago. The inscriptions have been made available in their original language and in a translation at the conclusion of the book. Includes Map of Egypt, Chronological Overview, Exhibits from the three tombs, Glossary, and Abbreviations.

TREASURY OF WORLD CULTURE. Archaeological Sites and Urban Centres. UNESCO World Heritage
Author: Abate, Marco, ed
Year: 2002
Country or State of Origin: Italy
In 1972 UNESCO created the World Heritage Foundation, a program to identify and protect “world heritage sites”, which are irresplaceable environments ranging from natural areas to whole urban centers. In Denmark, the Jelling burial mounds and one of the runic stones are striking examples of pagan Nordic culture, while the other runic stone and church illustrate the Christianization of the Danish people towards the middle of the tenth century. There are two sites in Finland, the Bronze Age Burial Site features more than thirty granite burial cairns, and Old Rauma which is one of the oldest harbours in Finland. Bryggen, The Rock Carvings of Alta, and Røros are sites in Norway, and they show the beautiful houses made from wood, the thousands of paintings and engravings, and the exploitation of copper mines. In Sweden the six sites focus on the history of trading, a Church Village of Gammelstad, Engelsberg Ironworks, Hanseatic Town of Visby - a former viking site on the island of Gotland, the Mining Area of the Great Copper Mountain in Falun, and Rock Carvings in Tanum. Each site is presented up close with color reproductions and a rich explanatory text.
