TRAVERSING - MOMENTS MARKED WITH GLASS/AT KRYDSE SPOR - I GLAS.

Author: Pedersen, Helle Mariertta, graphic design
Year: 2005
Country or State of Origin: Denmark

Beautifully designed catalogue presenting four artists who began their careers in the mid to late 1990s - Sally Fawkes, John Burton, Richard Jackson and Eva Engström. Each artist is presented with colour images of several of their works, bioraphies and a statement. Seen seperatley the work of each individual artist has its own attractions but as a combined body of work this exhibition provides a rare insight into the wider state of the art in which they have chosen to express themselves. Four good friends are exhibiting their work together, all of them once students at Surrey Institute of Art & Design University College in England and each in his or her own way has developed a recognisable handwriting in glass.

ZILVER UIT FINLAND / SILVER FROM FINLAND / ARGENTERIE DE FINLANDE / SILBER AUS FINNLAND. Wirkkala, Gardberg, Sarpaneva, Piekäinen

Author: De Ren, Leo
Year: 1995
Country or State of Origin: Germany

The Scandinavians are known as trendsetters in the design world. It was through the fortunate coexistence of art and industry that the aesthetic and functional design of decorative objects and appliances grew into an important export product. Design became the hallmark of the Scandinavian countries. This is certainly true of Finland, the home of the modern silverware featured in this exhibition. In 1976 the Sterckshof Museum turned the spotlight on Finnish crafts and design and the exhibition provided a good overview of design from the sixties and seventies but it did not touch on precious metals. That is why this time the Silver Centre decided to concentrate on Finnish silver designed by four leading artist-designers in the second half of this century.
