KRONDAHL, HANS TEXTILA VERK (Textile Works).

Hans Krondahl has worked in several techniques and has his roots within the old textile folk art of Skåne in southern Sweden. His art is characterized by its colourfulness and expressive idiom. Study-trips to Japan, Indonesia, Africa and the U.S. have all had their cultural impact on him and left their mark on his art. Hans Krondahl’s works are to be found in a number of public spaces, in Lund Cathedral, at the powerplant at Ringhals, and at FOI, the Swedish defense Research Agency in Linköping, among others. He has also worked with pattern design for the textile industry and with Katja of Sweden, the first Swedish fashion designer of renown in the 1960s. Already as a student at the University College of Arts, Crafts and Design in Stockholm, Krondahl was discovered by Astrid Sampe, the then Head of the Textile Section of the department store NK, with whom he began collaborating with. In the 1960s, Edna Martin, one of the foremost textile artists of the time and long-time Artistic Director of the Textile Art Studio HV, Handarbetets Vänner, engaged him to work for the studio. Hans Krondahl has also lectured on textiles and in 1988, he became Sweden’s first Professor of Textile Art at the School of Design and Crafts at Göteborg University.
