NYKLASSICISMEN I SVERIGE (Neoclassicism in Sweden). Svenska Inredningar och Möbler 1770-1850 (Swedish Interiors and Furniture 1770-1850)

Author: Groth, HÃ¥kan. Photographs by Fritz von der Schulenberg
Year: 2000
Country or State of Origin: Sweden

Thanks to King Gustav III’s cultural interests and passion for architecture, the late 1700’s in Sweden were virtually a Golden Age of Art in Sweden. Though so distant from centers of Neoclassicism, such as Paris or Rome, many masterpieces of Neoclassicism emerged in this small country of the North. This gorgeous book examines these masterpieces, such as the Royal Castle, Gunnebo, Haga, and Rosendal, and includes a comprehensive catalog of furniture types and styles with drawings by architects, artists, and artisans.

PANTON, VERNER. The Collected Works

Author: Vegesack, Alexander von, Mathias Remmele ed
Year: 2000
Country or State of Origin: Denmark

With his visionary, intensely colorful home furnishings, Danish designer Panton sought ways to fashion a stylistically uniform, imaginative interior. His plastic Panton chair, a one-piece cantilevered design made in candy-apple colors, has been in production continuously since 1968, and its sinuous shape is recognizable to millions who have never heard the designer’s name. By the early sixties, he had already helped establish a color spectrum that dominated home design until the mid seventies. This first comprehensive monograph on Panton’s work also includes his “ œPhantasy Lanscape“ , a foam rubber room of womb-like organic shapes designed for the Visiona II exhibition at the 1970 Cologne furniture fair. A must-have for lovers of late-twentieth century furniture and “ œinterior landcape.“

PANTON, VERNER: LYSET OG FARVEN/ THE LIGHT AND THE COLOUR.

Author: Gertrud Hvidberg-Hansen
Year: 1998
Country or State of Origin: Denmark

Using space as a medium itself, Panton’s (1926-1999) spatial installations are an architectural form of applied art, and have appeared in contexts that over the years included housing, offices, restaurants, exhibitions, and discotheques. This exhibition is truly unique as the work on display represents the full range of Panton’s expertise by including furniture, lamps, textiles, and sculptures that are all imbued with the connected sense of atmosphere that is characteristic of an installation. This exhibition is also rare because the work shown here was the last that Panton would ever complete, as he and his wife were putting the finishing touches to this exhibition at the time of his death. For this reason, this exhibition celebrates his career by offering insight into Panton’s distinctive artistic universe.
