DALMÅLERI (Paintings of Dalarna). Dalmålarna - Deras Liv Och Verk ( The Painters of Dalarna - Their Lives and Work)
Author: Andersson, Roland, Rune Bondjers, Johan Knutsson, Margareta Andersson
Year: 2007
Country or State of Origin: Sweden
Probably the most complete book ever produced on the Folk Painting of Dalarna starting with decorative painting on furniture encouraged by the royal family as this time of history during the 1770’s was a very difficult time to survive on small farms in the heartland of Sweden. These difficult times forced the average farmer to seek revenue outside of their immediate area, so with the encouragement of the royal family they started painting furniture for the affluent part of the population including the royal family. A comprehensive historical essay on Dalapainting in interiors and as art and where these interiors are found. The subject matter of Dalapainting varies from figurative to landscapes to the depiction of life in the late 18th century and later. A following chapter shows the Dalapainting after 1870, the colors used and a comprehensive list of biographies of the painters in many parts of dalarna from Mora, Falun Enviken, Malung, Lima, Transtrand and more. A very important book for any one, who has any interest in Dalapainting; richly illustrated with beautiful full page illustrations of furniture painting, wall and ceiling painting in detail including the tools to make them.

KIRKESKIBE (Church Ships). I Danmark og de Tidligere Hertugdømmer Slesvig og Holsten (In Denmark and the Former Parts of Denmark, Schlesvig and Holstein) En Billedbog (A Picture Book)
Author: Elisabeth and Henning Henningsen
Year: no year
Country or State of Origin: Denmark
Full- page, color photographs of something very unique to Denmark: CHURCH SHIPS. These ships are each made by hand in a very intricate way. They look like miniature grand schooners of a past era. Local craftspeople would make a ship and hang it in the church, so the congregation could think of the captain or other ship’s personnel from the town, while in church for the service. In this way they could pray for the seafarers. These ships have every part which a large ship would have, all the masts, the sails, the figurehead, the bow, the stern and beautiful carvings and painted decorations. Each ship is photographed, some have detailed drawings and a detailed description of the ship’s maker, place, year, size, material and all the names of the different parts of the ship. Includes detailed map with locations of all 51 ships.
