GAMMALT PORSLIN (Old Porcelain). Svenska Serviser 1790 - 1990 (Swedish Dinner Patterns 1790-1990)

Author: Jane Fredlund
Year: 1997
Country or State of Origin: Sweden

This very beautiful and comprehensive book about Swedish porcelain over two centuries should be a standard item in art libraries, even as it adorns the shelf of the individual collector and lover of fine porcelain. Chapters are devoted to collecting old porcelain, and to the renowned makers of porcelain, such as Rörstrand, Gustavsberg, and Gefle. Included are makers’ marks as well as complete catalogues from Rörstrand, Gustavsberg, and Gefle. What is truly marvelous, however, is how the porcelain is photographed: in natural, but elegantly arranged place settings, sometimes with food, so that the reader can appreciate the intense pleasure that such wonderful porcelain gave the user.

KONGELIGE DANSK (Royal Danish). Blåmalt Porselen fra den Kongelige Porcelainsfabrik 1775- ca.1820/ Blue- Painted Porcelain from the Royal Porcelain Factory 1775- ca.1820

Author: Lauritz G. Dorenfeldt
Year: 1998
Country or State of Origin: Norway

The founding of the porcelain factory in Copenhagen in 1775 came as the result of experiments made by Frantz Henrich Muller, a chemist, in the years 1772-1774. Using raw materials from among other places Bornholm, Muller had managed to produce genuine, hard-paste porcelain. This beautiful book is richly illustrated in color, blue and white showing us the famous pattern, the Blue Flower with clear overglaze in dinnerware, figurines and wonderful serving pieces. All painters’ marks are pictured in addition to the factory mark - the three waves - symbolizing Denmark’s three waterways: The Sound, Great Belt and Little Belt.
