AALTO, ALVAR OBJECTS AND FURNITURE DESIGN.

Author: Dachs, Sandra; de Muga, Patricia; Garcia Hintze, Laura
Year: 2007
Country or State of Origin: Spain

Nature, biology, has rich and luxurious forms; with the same principles of cellular organisation, it can create billions of combinations, each of which represent a definitive highly developed form. Man’s life belongs to the same category. The things that surround him are hardly fetishes or allegories with mystical eternal value: more than anything else, they are cells and tissues, living beings like himself, building components that make up human life. - Alvar Aalto. A great book on the design of furniture and objects by Alvar Aalto.

ALVAR AALTO MUSEO 1966-1986.

Author: Louna Lahti
Year: 1987
Country or State of Origin: Finland

Aalto’s life was closely tied to Jyväskyla and its outlying areas, and his later designs are conspicuous in the city’s architecture. In 1969 the Alvar Aalto Museum began operation, and continues to be, as per the wishes of Aalto himself, a living museum, universal, not restricted to the work of a single artist, a museum where the visual arts and architecture are represented in all their complexity.

Architectural Magazine: IMAGINARY AUSTRALIA.

Author: Gilbert Hansen, ed
Year: 1996
Country or State of Origin: Denmark

In the meeting between the imaginary and real life, architecture comes into being. In this issue of the Architectural Magazine B, Australian architects, writers and artists discuss the thin and porous line between the imaginary and the real, expressing their visions of the Australian reality. The projects here present a selection of contemporary Australian architecture, from Darwin in the north to the large cities in the south, Melbourne and Sydney, from the wastelands in the west around Perth, to Queensland’s sunshine coast in the east. The projects have primarily been created by the younger generation of architects who, working from small firms for private clients, constitute niches in Australia’s tough and commercialized construction sector. It is important for architects to study how settlements in the new culture-landscapes are formed, how the architecture is defined in these spaces and how new connections can be created in a meeting between old architectural ideals and new surroundings.

BUNSCHOTEN, RAOUL: THE SKIN OF THE EARTH. B No. 49

Author: Gilbert Hansen and Peter Mandal Hansen, eds
Year: 1992
Country or State of Origin: Denmark

This edition presents the Dutch architect Raoul Bunschoten and concentrates on his three latest projects (from the period 1988-91): Soul’s Cycle, Berlin and Apeiron and The Skin of the Earth. Bunschoten’s use of materials, ferrocement and steel, make a high degree of precision necessary. The heavy concrete sections are cast in specially-made moulds, and are held up by the collection of small steel plates and steel wire. At the same time, heavy objects are liberated from the ground, or move on wheels. Bunschoten has a bold, exciting vision.
