Aalto, Alvar: KOLMEN RISTIN KIRKKO/ CHURCH OF THE THREE CROSSES, IMATRA.
Author: Heporauta, Arne & Päivi Lukkarinen
Year: 2001
Country or State of Origin: Finland
What makes this church design unique is the use of free form and the artisitc lighting. The aim was to design a white building for a well-lit pine forest, that would glimmer between the pine trunks as the visitor approached. This book carefully describes the mastering of conception and contstruction that went into the building of the Chruch of the Three Crosses. Alvar Aalto created a space tapering in the form of a fan towards the alter, where the symbolism of the trinity creates mysticism within the light and the music of the organ. Plans and elevations included.

Author: Helamaa, Erkki; Jari Jetsonen
Year: 2007
Country or State of Origin: Finland
Alvar Aalto’s Summer Homes presents small, intimate and personal summer houses and saunas designed by Aalto - early works as well as later ones that have been published only rarely. Included are two summer homes that Aalto designed and built for himself: Villa Flora (designed together with Aino Aalto), from Aalto’s early production, and the world famous Experimental House in Muuratsalo. The beautifully structured summer homes featured in this book were designed by Aalto for his relatives, close friends or clients for whom he already designed larger commissions.

AALTO, ALVAR: URBAN FINLAND.
Author: Timo Koho
Year: 1995
Country or State of Origin: Finland
How do Aalto’s urban design principles show up in his work in the Finland of today? This book introduces 11 areas from the 1920s to the 1970s: administrative and cultural centres, universities, office buildings and suburbs. The extensive illustrative material for the book has been photographed by Timo Koho in 1996 and 1997 to show Alvar Aalto’s work from different decades as it appears today, as a part of the urban milieu of the 1990s. Together with the text it also tells of the validity of Aalto’s value in the present decade.
